Guide to HIV/AIDS-Related Social Security Benefits Now Available
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has available "Social Security Benefits for People Living with HIV/AIDS," a booklet to help people living with HIV/AIDS apply for SSA benefits. The booklet describes how people living with HIV/AIDS can apply for benefits under two SSA programs:
- Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Social Security Benefits for People Living with HIV/AIDS is replacing a previous SSA publication entitled "A Guide to Social Security and SSI Disability Benefits for People with HIV Infection." That publication has been discontinued and is no longer available.
The new booklet also covers the topics such as

- How to File for Benefits
- What We Will Ask
- How We Make a Decision on Your Claim
- How You Can Help Speed up Your Claim
- What We Are Doing to Help You Get Benefits Faster
