___________________________________________________________ FOR INFO ON NOAA CORAL REEF RESEARCH GRANTS administered by NURP for the Florida Keys, the U.S. Caribbean, and Hawaii and the Western Pacific, PLEASE SEE www.nurp.noaa.gov/noaacoral.html ______________________________________ Most of NOAA's Undersea Research Program's (NURP) research funding is awarded through the NURP Centers. Each center advertises research announcements annually based on research guidelines (PDF; HTML) provided by NURP headquarters. A peer review process is conducted to select projects for funding. For details on this procedure, contact the center whose geographic region covers the proposed project (NURP Centers). NURP Proposal Review Schedule for 2004 (for support in CY2005)
Peer ReviewNURP aims to support the best science. Over ninety per cent of our projects are selected using peer review. Proposals are first sent out for mail review-- confidential evaluations by authorities in the field. Principal Investigators are given the opportunity to rebut critical reviews. Proposals, mail reviews and rebuttals are then evaluated by a panel of experts. Based on scientific merit, relevance to national and regional issues, qualifications of the investigators and technical feasibility, the panel ranks the proposals and recommends which should be supported. Some funds, less than $10,000 per project, are available for developmental projects, or small exploratory research grants. Reserved for late-breaking, high priority issues, these may be awarded at the discretion of center management. |
