FDA PERMITS THE USE OF SELENIUM YEAST IN HORSE FEED
In response to a stakeholder request, FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine has stated that it will exercise enforcement discretion to allow for the use of selenium yeast in complete horse feeds at levels not to exceed 0.3 part per million (ppm) added selenium (Se). This decision applies to any firm that manufactures and markets selenium yeast within the specifications of FDA’s food additive regulation.
FDA has approved selenium yeast as a food additive in the complete feed for chickens, turkeys, swine, beef cattle, and dairy cattle at a level not to exceed 0.3 ppm of added selenium [Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Part 573.920(h) -- ].
