Directions to DTIC Defense Technical Information
Center (DTIC®) General Information DTIC is located in the Andrew T. McNamara Headquarters Complex (HQC) at Ft. Belvoir, VA. The HQC has controlled access with fluctuating security requirements that may alter access procedures. Currently, all visitors must use the Main Gate (Gate 1) located on John J. Kingman Road to verify his/her visit to DTIC. Be prepared to show a picture I.D. Parking is limited due to a major construction project currently taking place. The security guards will direct you to the parking area available for visitors. Please note that parking is not allowed in any numbered space. Be advised that due to changing security conditions and the fact that the entire HQC is a construction site, visitors could encounter long walking distances to the area where DTIC is located. All visitors must enter the HQC through the main lobby located in the center of the building, marked by flagpoles. Upon entry into the building, check in at the guard station. There are no hotels
or motels within walking distance of the HQC and there is limited access
to restaurants and shopping centers. A full service cafeteria (available
for breakfast and lunch) is located in the HQC. Driving Directions: From Reagan National Airport (two routes available) 1) Take the Jefferson
Davis Highway (also called U.S. Route 1/Richmond Highway) south 2) Take the George
Washington Memorial Parkway south through Alexandria. In Alexandria,
the name changes to Washington Street and as it approaches Mt. Vernon
it is also called the Mt. Vernon Memorial Highway. After the circle
at Mt. Vernon, avoid the sharp right and continue west on the Mt. Vernon
Highway until you intersect with Jefferson Davis Highway (also called
U.S. Route 1/Richmond Highway) where you will turn left/south toward
Ft. Belvoir. Continue south, past Pence Gate (the main Belvoir gate),
until the Jefferson Davis Highway intersects with Fairfax County Parkway
(Route 7100) and turn right. At the first traffic light turn right onto
John J. Kingman Road. Visitors should use the Main Gate (Gate 1), which
is the second gate into the HQC (see above for information about entering
the HQC). Take the Dulles Access Road to southbound Interstate 495. In Springfield, exit onto Interstate 95 south. Continue on Interstate 95 to Exit 166A, Ft. Belvoir/Newington (approximately 2 miles south of Springfield). The off-ramp will put you on the Fairfax County Parkway (Route 7100) heading south. Continue for approximately two miles and turn left onto John J. Kingman Road. Visitors should use the Main Gate (Gate 1), which is the second gate into the HQC (see above for information about entering the HQC). Take Interstate 395 South. The road becomes Interstate 95 after the exits for Interstate 495. Follow Interstate 95 to Exit 166A, Ft. Belvoir/Newington. The off-ramp will put you on the Fairfax County Parkway (7100) heading south. Continue approximately two miles and turn left onto John J. Kingman Road. Visitors should use the Main Gate (Gate 1), which is the second gate into the HQC (see above for information about entering the HQC). From Richmond, Virginia and Points South Take Interstate 95 north toward Washington, DC. Take Exit 166A, Ft. Belvoir/Newington. The off-ramp will put you on the Fairfax County Parkway (Route 7100) heading south. Continue for approximately two miles and turn left onto John J. Kingman Road. Visitors should use the Main Gate (Gate 1), which is the second gate into the HQC (see above for information about entering the HQC). Directions from Baltimore, Maryland and Points North Take Interstate 95 south toward Washington, DC. Take 495 south toward Richmond. In Springfield exit onto Interstate 95 south. Continue on Interstate 95 to Exit 166A, Ft. Belvoir/Newington (approximately 2 miles south of Springfield). The off-ramp will put you on the Fairfax County Parkway (Route 7100) heading south.
