The National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program of the U.S. Geological Survey is the largest water quality program of the Geological Survey, and has, as part of its goals, an understanding of the status and trends of the nation's water quality and an understanding of the natural and anthropogenic factors affecting water quality.
