Mission

The mission of the Office of Performance Budgeting is to ensure that Treasury’s annual performance budget supports the Department’s strategic plan, and to advocate execution of the budget efficiently and effectively toward the achievement of optimal performance levels across all Treasury bureaus. 

We add value to Treasury’s budget operations by:

  • Providing leadership, management and direction on budget and performance issues;
  • Advising, guiding and assisting our customers on a variety of budgeting functions and processes;
  • Managing regulatory and other customer reporting requirements;
  • Providing assessments and evaluations of budgetary and financial resources;
  • Providing Treasury management with information that can be used to make informed decisions on budget requests to OMB and Congress; and
  • Serving as the Department’s focal point for budget matters with OMB and Congress

Budget Documents
Visit this area to learn more about the Department of the Treasury's resources levels for the current official President's budget and for prior years. Specifically, this site includes the Department's Budget-in-Brief documents. Included are highlights of the Department's budget and related detailed summary table information, along with highlights of our performance plan and report, the annual financial management plan, and additional supplemental information. This site also includes information on how to acquire copies of the more expanded Congressional Justification materials submitted by the Department and its member bureaus to the Congress.

Planning Documents
The Government Performance and Results Act of 1993 (the Results Act) requires every agency to prepare and publish: (1) a strategic plan that lays out is mission, long-term goals and objectives, and strategies for achieving those goals and objectives; and (2) an annual performance plan that provides the direct linkage between the long-term strategic goals and what managers and employees are expected to accomplish in a single fiscal year.

Performance Reports
The Results Act requires submission of an annual performance report to the President and Congress covering the previous fiscal year on what was actually accomplished in the agencies for the resources spent.
