The Autism Society of America educates parents, professionals, and the public regarding autism; improves the welfare of people with autism; supports research regarding autism; and oversees over 200 local chapters nationwide. ASA's Information and Referral Service, provides accurate information to parents, health professionals, and concerned citizens. Parents can obtain information on understanding autism, developing necessary skills for dealing with children with autism, Federal and State programs and education services, appropriate health facilities for children with autism, and resources such as reading lists and film lists. In addition, the Service provides information on new approaches, new literature, and means of solving problems geared to the professional working with individuals with autism. Career information is provided for those interested in working with individuals with autism and their families. The Society also refers callers to local chapters and support groups for state specific information and services.
