Education and Training Opportunities

Many educational opportunities exist for nurses within the NIH Clinical Center. These offerings are varied and include topic areas ranging from practice specific courses to professional development.

Education and TrainingGenetics Course
Lectures and computer-based training; web-based course in development

Internships
A Clinical internship program is offered in neuroscience  for recent nursing graduates. The program takes approximately seven months to complete.

Clinical internship program features include:

  • A minimum of 275 hours of classroom instruction
  • Interdisciplinary clinical rounds attendance
  • Professional conference participation
  • Biomedical research nurse and physician mentoring
  • Clinical seminar and patient case study presentations
  • Clinical experience guided by staff nurse preceptor
  • Direct patient care on inpatient and ambulatory care units
  • Skill development in the research utilization process and/or extramural observational experiences at specialty sites
  • Certification eligibility by specialty organizations
