About NCRR

The Freedom of Information Act, 5 U.S.C. 552

Before submitting a request to NCRR under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), you should ensure that the information you seek is not already in the public domain. NCRR makes information available to the public through its publications and Web site. A search of the NCRR Web site can assist you in locating information and a list of available publications.

If you cannot locate the information you need and, therefore, decide to request NCRR records under the provisions of FOIA, your request must be dated; appear on letterhead stationery if you are requesting the information on behalf of an organization; indicate that the information is requested under the FOIA; identify a specific document or reasonably describe the document requested; include a daytime telephone number in case additional information is needed; and have a signature. Because requests require a signature, we cannot accept e-mail requests.

FOIA requests may be mailed or faxed to:

NCRR Freedom of Information Coordinator
National Center for Research Resources
National Institutes of Health
One Democracy Plaza, Room 978
6701 Democracy Boulevard, MSC 4874
Bethesda, Maryland 20892-4874
FAX: (301) 480-3558

For additional information about filing a request or an appeal, fees, exemptions, and policies, refer to the Web site of the NIH Freedom of Information Office.

Privacy Act of 1974

When an individual requests his or her own records that are held by the government as part of a “system of records,” the request is handled under the rules of the Privacy Act of 1974. However, when the request is processed, the FOIA Subpart B—Obtaining a Record, will be applied.
