As a result of the first five years (1997-2000),
approximately 300 projects have been initiated with over $800 million invested by DoD and
Industry to develop Dual Use technologies. Participation
in the Programs has been increased both within the military departments and industry. More
and more commercial firms are becoming involved in the Program. Of the 355 different
non-federal partners participating in the program, 130 are commercial firms.
The Fiscal Year 2001 joint solicitation resulted in over 170 DUS&T Proposals received
for approximately $400 million worth of dual use technologies. The selection process
should be completed in August 2000.. The Focus Areas chosen by the Services cut across the
Services' mission areas and technology requirements and deal with electronics, medical,
environmental and logistics applications.
