Hawaii and Minnesota to Boost Ethanol Use

By April 2006, most of Hawaii's gasoline will contain 10 percent ethanol under new administrative rules signed by Governor Linda Lingle. But 10 percent isn't good enough for Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who wants to increase the percentage of ethanol in the state's gasoline to 20 percent. More

California Approves Rules to Cut Auto Greenhouse Emissions

The California Air Resources Board approved new regulations on September 24th that will require automakers to sell vehicles that produce lower emissions of greenhouse gases. By 2016, the regulations will cut greenhouse gas emissions from new cars and light trucks by 30 percent. More

New York State Sets a New Renewable Energy Requirement

By 2013, utilities in New York State will draw on renewable energy for 25 percent of the power they sell, under a new policy set by the Public Service Commission on September 22nd. The new Renewable Portfolio Standard program will result in 3,700 megawatts of new renewables in the state. More

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced in mid- September its selection of 167 renewable energy and energy efficiency projects to receive a total of $22.8 million in competitive grants. The projects include energy efficiency upgrades and wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal energy. More
