Registration Information

Becoming a FastLane Organization
To have access to the functions listed above, your organization must register with NSF as a FastLane organization. This registration is required for several reasons including our assurance that the proper individual from each organization is identified as the primary organizational user, the ability to notify PI's whether or not their organization is a FastLane organization, and to assure that the necessary instructions and documents are received by the primary organizational user. The primary organizational user should be someone from your Research Administration who will be our primary contact point and will be responsible for the initial FastLane access. In many organization, the primary organizational user will be the Authorized Organizational Representative or a designee. To register, please use the form at the end of this document. We will contact your primary user when we are ready to register your organization. If you have a question about FastLane, please send your question to fastlane@nsf.gov.

Cash Requests via FastLane
Organizations with NSF awards are able to request cash from NSF via the World Wide Web and FastLane.

To use this FastLane procedure, you must contact NSF's Division of Financial Management.

When the organization is registered with NSF's Division of Financial Management, the financial office will receive a Password. This is used in association with its reporting station (organization code) to authorize cash advances or reimbursements. The process is very simple and direct. For additional information on Cash Request or FCTR contact your cognizant NSF Accountant in the Institution Ledger Section, Division of Financial Management. Click here ( NSF Contact List ) for the name, phone number and email address of your contact.

Note: Clicking this link will take you out of the FastLane system.

FastLane Organization Registration
In order to protect the confidentiality of certain information, access to most FastLane features is limited to authorized users. With certain exceptions, the registration of authorized users will be administered by the primary organizational user.

Upon registration the FastLane contact will choose a Password that will allow him/her to access all FastLane organizational applications, and detailed instructions about how to add and maintain FastLane users and assign/change access passwords and grant user permissions.

The Privacy Act generally prohibits government agencies from revealing personal information by any means of communication to any person without the prior written consent of the individual about whom the information pertains (5 U.S.C. 552a). Pursuant to a "routine use" published in the Federal Register, NSF may disclose information maintained in the FastLane system to officials of grantee organization. Organizations, however, should maintain the confidentiality of the information, and not further disseminate it except as needed for proposal and grant administration.

Password access is a means of protecting confidentiality of information. Passwords should generally not be created for persons not directly involved in the administration of grants or the submission of proposals.

By registering as a FastLane Organization the organization agrees that it will take responsibility for controlling individual access gained through the passwords or any sub-passwords that it assigns to FastLane proposal preparation and Organizational management functions.
