Highlights:

• TEDS is an administrative data system providing descriptive information about the national flow of admissions to specialty providers of substance abuse treatment.

• Approximately 1.6 million records are submitted to TEDS each year.

• TEDS public use files for 1992 to 1999 are available for on-line analysis through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA).

• Persons wanting to do their own data analysis might find  OAS's data systems  helpful as well as background and other information on SAMHSA's data analysis system (SAMHDA).

This Short Report, The DASIS Report:  The Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS), is based on the Drug and Alcohol Services Information System (DASIS), the primary source of national data on substance abuse treatment.  DASIS is conducted by the Office of Applied Studies (OAS) in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
