Division of Extramural Affairs

The NHLBI Division of Extramural Affairs (DEA) provides a number of services to the Institute. DEA represents the Institute on overall NIH committees on extramural program policies and oversees compliance with such policies within the NHLBI. It advises the Director, NHLBI, on research contract, grant, and research training program policies. The Division provides grant and contract management and processing services to the Institute's program divisions. It conducts initial scientific merit review of applications for research project grants, program project and center grants, research training and development grants, cooperative agreements, and research contracts. In addition, the DEA coordinates the Institute's Committee Management Activities and the meetings of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Advisory Council.
