Major research interests include: 1) the myocarditis produced by T. cruzi (Chagas' disease); 2) the myocardial toxicity of doxorubicin and other antineoplastic agents; 3) the myocardial injury produced by oxygen free radicals; 4) the effects of cytokines on the heart; 5) immunohistochemical studies of interstitial dendritic cells and various types of inflammatory cells in heart and lung, and 6) pathological changes in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, histiocytosis X and bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis. Techniques of analysis include transmission and scanning electron microscopy, video image morphometric analysis and confocal laser scanning microscopy.
