Housing Patterns - Report Materials

Report materials include the "Racial and Ethnic Residential Segregation in the United States: 1980-2000" Census Special Report in HTML and PDF which presents data for 4 racial/ethnic groups for 5 indexes (one for each dimension of segregation.). This report examines and discusses trends in residential segregation and includes tables, which provide descriptive statistics, changes over time, as well as magnitudes of changes for selected characteristics. In addition, there are graphical representations of residential segregation in the form of scatter plots, histograms, and maps. Please note that only segregation indexes were calculated for 1980, 1990, and 2000. The 1980 and 1990 segregation indexes have been recalculated to reflect MSA boundaries in effect during Census 2000 and therefore may not be the same as previously released. Current measures also combine tracts previously split when they crossed place boundaries. While every effort has been made to check these new calculations, they are complex and they may need to be revised in the future. Measures of Housing Patterns/Residential Segregation are also provided.
