Elk
seek refuge in the East Fork of the Bitterroot River from the Sula Complex
Fire, just north of Sula, MT. This fire was just one of thousands in the
western U.S. during the second half of the summer of 2000, making it one of the
worst fire seasons in recorded history.

Fire Weather
Forecast (for SW MN and SE SD counties only. Narrative issued
no later than 7 am and 330 pm from April 1st to May 31st, and again
from August 15th to October 31st. From June 1st to August
14th, only the morning narrative will be posted.)

Grassland
Fire Danger (Statement and map issued daily from April 1st to
October 31st...and as needed during the winter months.
Meteorological conditions will be included in the fire danger
statement when the grassland fire danger index reaches very high or extreme.)

Wx Watch or Red
Flag Warning (will be issued when red flag criteria are
probable, met or exceeded in
the Sioux Falls forecast area for anytime of the year).
