Assistant Chief Holmberg Retires

Assistant Chief Carl R. Holmberg retired from the U.S. Park Police on Dec. 16, 2000, after 35 years of dedicated and faithful service. A Washington, D.C., native and graduate of Anacostia High School, Holmberg had a distinguished career as he rose through the Park Police ranks to become the second highest ranking member of the force. During his career, Holmberg helped establish the Special Forces Branch, the SWAT team, and made significant contributions to better the force's crowd-control procedures. Assistant Chief Holmberg received numerous awards and honors during his career, including Interior's Valor Award, a Red Cross Lifesaving Award, several Unit Citations, several Superior Performance Awards, a PADC Lifesaving Award, and the "Top Gun" Firearms Trophy in Recruit School. |
He and his wife, Barbara Ann have three children, one of whom, Officer Carl Holmberg II, is a member of the force. Holmberg plans to enjoy time with his family and go fishing, his favorite pastime. Click here to return to Feature Page |
