SPC HARMAN ARTICLE 32 HEARING CONCLUDED
BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Statement by COL Jill Morgenthaler, MNF-I PAO
Today concluded the Article 32 hearing on US v. Sabrina Harmon.
An Article 32 hearing is a proceeding similar to a grand jury. The purpose of the hearing is to determine if there are reasonable grounds upon which to base the charges and to determine the disposition of the case.
Yesterday, several witnesses testified either in person or telephonically.
Today, an additional witness testified and documentary evidence was submitted by both the government and the defense. The hearing officer concluded the hearing and will prepare his recommendation for the appointing authority.
Once the appointing authority receives the hearing officer's recommendation, he will consider a wide range of possible dispositions including forwarding the case for referral to a court-martial.
