IS-195 Basic Incident Command System

Printed materials for this course are no longer available through the online enrollment process. You are welcome to participate in this course interactively (online), or by downloading the course materials from this page. You may still complete the final exam on-line to receive your certificate. The final exams are either found within the last unit of downloaded materials or in a separate downloadable file.

The Incident Command System (ICS) is recognized as an effective system for managing emergencies. Several States have adopted ICS as their standard for emergency management, and others are considering adopting ICS. As ICS gains wider use, there is a need to provide training for those who are not first responders (i.e., law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services personnel) who may be called upon to function in an ICS environment. This Basic Incident Command System (ICS) Course will begin to meet that need. The course has been developed as self-instruction but can also be delivered, with the use of an instructor, in a classroom. The course includes a large number of scenarios, examples, and opportunities for students to apply what they have learned.

You can participate in this course two ways.

Note: THE PRINTED MATERIALS EXAM IS DIFFERENT FROM THE INTERACTIVE WEB-BASED COURSE. PLEASE READ DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY WHEN TAKING THE TEST.

1. Download the printed materials available online, study the materials, and then take the exam online and complete the enrollment information at the same time.

2. Use the interactive web-based course and then take the web course exam online (different from the exam for printed materials) and complete the enrollment information at the same time.

* If you have questions, please read IS-195 FAQ section or send email directly to trainwebmaster@dhs.gov.
