projects > a retrospective and critical review of aquifer storage and recovery sites and frameworks

A Retrospective and Critical Review of Aquifer Storage and Recovery Sites and Frameworks within the Upper Floridan Aquifer in South Florida

Project Personnel: Mike Deacon and Kim Swidarsky

Summary

The analysis for this project will provide scientists and ASR decision-makers with additional tools and data necessary to make informed decisions that incorporate constraining geologic, hydrogeologic, and hydrologic factors.

Objectives of this project are to: 1) Assess the strengths and weakness of available geologic, hydrogeologic, hydrologic, hydraulic, and hydrochemical information at existing ASR sites; 2) Conduct a review of existing conceptual geologic and hydrogeologic frameworks; 3) Identify factors which locally or regionally constrain the efficient recovery and storage of water within the Upper Floridan aquifer; and, 4) Identify successful techniques and methodologies that private and public operators have employed during the development of ASR facilities in south Florida and evaluate and identify problems and weaknesses to methods employed.
