Who We Are
Welcome to the U.S. Army Military District of Washington Web
site. MDW is a multifaceted command with responsibilities focused
primarily in the National Capital Region, but whose missions
and vision extend nationwide.
The most serious mission of the command is reflected in our
informal nickname, “Guardian of the Nation’s Capital.” Carrying
this commitment forward links MDW with its sister services, the
United States Northern Command and civilian agency counterparts
to provide a strengthened shield and a responsive capability
in times of national or local emergency.
The nation and the Army have entrusted other key missions to
MDW as well. We are in the public eye as the visible manifestation
of the Army, and hence the nation, at ceremonies and performances
to which the American and world public is often witness.
In these public Web pages we hope to give you a better understanding
of our commitment to the American people, the Army values and
to the Soldiers Creed. It should serve your needs by helping
you find what you are looking for and expedite your interactions
with us.
