APPENDIX C: PUBLIC COMMENTS

The West Kingston Town Dump and University of Rhode Island Disposal Area public health assessment was available for public review and comment in local libraries for a 30-day period ending November 12, 1992. The public comment period was announced in local newspapers. In addition, the public health assessment was sent to several individuals or organizations. One set of commments was received. Specific comments and responses are summarized below.

Comment 1:

EPA reported the site was finalized on their National Priorities List (Final Rule) in October 1992.

    Response:

The public health assessment has been revised.

Comment 2:

USEPA reported that Figure 1 does not seem to accurately depict the relative areal extent of the two disposal areas; the comment was later rescinded.

    Response:

No revision required.

Comment 3:

USEPA reported they plan to gather data to characterize contamination at the site and contiguous areas.

    Response:

The public health actions section of the public health assessment has been augmented to reflect the proposed data gathering.
