STD*MIS 4.1 Pre-release

Build Number:  2

STD*MIS 4.1 Pre-release is a "work-in-progress" version of the upcoming 4.1 system.  It is distributed solely for the purpose of gathering feedback and comments on new and updated features in the 4.1 system.    Before  downloading and installing the pre-release software, carefully read the list of questions and answers below.

How do I acquire and install the pre-release software?

1.  Create a folder on a local or network drive to contain the 4.1 system. To avoid any problems, create this folder in a place that is completely separate from the folder where your current STD*MIS system is installed.

2.  Download the 4.1 Pre-release zip file into your newly created 4.1 folder and unzip it.

How do I access the system?

Start the system by using Windows Explorer to navigate to the 4.1 folder and double-click on the file labeled StdMis.exe. Once the system starts, log in using a user id and password of STD and STD respectively.

How do I know what's been changed and what hasn't?

Included with each update (or "Build") is a script file named for the build, e.g. Build 1 script file is Build_1.txt, Build 2 will be Build_2.txt, etc.  This file contains one or more "scripts" to follow that will demonstrate new and updated features of the system. Each script will list exactly what steps to follow to access the new features and will contain information about the new features being demonstrated.  Each Build will contain the current script file as well as all other previous scripts.

What happens if I don't follow the scripts?

Because the system is still in development, many parts of it do not function properly. Failing to follow the scripts exactly will likely result in a system crash of some sort or other.   These crashes are nothing be concerned about but sticking with the script will help minimize them.

Do I have to provide my own data?

No, 4.1 Pre-release software comes complete with its own test database.  Since the new features in STD*MIS 4.1 have required changes in the database structure, database files from previous versions of STD*MIS will not work in the 4.1 environment.

What kind of feedback are you looking for?

At this stage in development, we are most interested in feedback regarding the usability and usefulness of the new and updated features.  We are less interested in technical issues (screen prompt doesn't display properly, colors aren't right, etc.) and more interested in general business functionality.  For example:

Is the data being collected appropriate and is it being collected in right manner?

Is the data entry and system flow logical?

Are there barriers in our area that would prevent us from using the new features as-is?

Where and how should I send my feedback?

The best method of reporting your comments and impressions is by email to your STD*MIS Support Person.  If possible, try to consolidate all your comments in a single email, rather than doing it piece-meal.

Where can I get the zip file containing the STD*MIS 4.1 Pre-release system?
