Partners in Flight is a partnership of  federal, state, and regional government agencies, conservation groups, academic institutions, industries, and private individuals, whose goal is to focus resources on research, monitoring, and educational programs involving birds and their habitats.  This list of educational resources includes recommendations for books, videos, and print teaching materials; it also provides information for acquiring posters, fliers, and booklets for the classroom.

The Albatross Project

Kids around the country are helping in a joint
effort to study albatross populations, and identify their distribution and activities using satellite tracking data.  The Project encourages classes to volunteer as trackers, and provides teachers with a solid collection of supplementary resources and activities.

This site provides a comprehensive collection of links to dozens of species and hundreds of Web sites devoted to general and species information.  A good reference for students and teachers.

Introduce your students to basic taxonomic principles using this set of classroom exercises with everyday materials, developed by the Franklin Institute Online.

This outstanding curriculum, designed by the Cornell University Laboratory of Ornithology, invites students and teachers to participate in a national, ongoing research project based upon observation of birds at feeders.  An extended project for grades 5-8, the study begins with an introduction to food webs.  Students learn how to conduct an experiment and write scientific papers.  They then choose a site for the feeder, describe the habitat, and submit their information online.  Afterwards, they monitor the site, identify and count visiting birds, and then graph their data.  This information is also submitted online, and students learn to draw conclusions from their data.  Finally, they design their own experiment using principles learned during the lab.

Sponsored by the Central American Commission for Environment and Development, this site features live e-tours of birds in their natural Costa Rican habitats.  Costa Rica is home to more than 850 bird species.  Recent site features include the HummingbirdCam and the QuetzalCam.  View the latest images, hear bird calls, and read more about the many beautiful and fascinating birds in this biologically rich country.
