new Korean language on-line U.S. nonimmigrant visa electronic application now available.

Applicants for nonimmigrant visas (NIVs) may now apply using a Korean language, on-line electronic application form (DS-156, E-form). The new Korean E-form can be filled out on the Internet and then printed with a bar code that will help the us process applications faster and more accurately. We encourage all NIV applicants to use this easily accessible web-based form.

Please complete, print out and submit all three pages of the E-form with your passport and other documents when applying for an NIV. All other NIV application procedures remain the same.


Please fill out on-line the electronic NIV application (DS-156) located on this page. If your computer does not support the minimum requirements specified below or you choose not to use the electronic DS-156, then use the non-electronic version of the DS-156.


Note :
All applicants from the BRP, URP and AmCham, and all holders of Diplomatic and Official passports must use the electronic NIV application (DS-156).



Computer requirements:
  • Internet browser that supports 128-bit encryption.
  • Internet Explorer (Windows), minimum version is 5.0, with service pack 2.
  • Netscape, minimum version is 6.2.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5 or higher to download and print the completed DS-156. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5 or higher, you may download a copy from Adobe's web site here.
  • Ink-jet or laser printer to print the completed DS-156.
Note: Depending on the speed of your Internet connection, it may take several minutes to download the initial and completed copies of the DS-156. Please be patient.



Instructions for completing an Electronic DS-156:
  • Enter the information requested into the appropriate spaces on the form. Please answer all questions. Your answers must be in English. If a field is completed incorrectly, a message will advise you correct the entry.
  • Review the information you entered for accuracy.
  • Press the Continue button at the end of the form and wait while the system processes your data and transfers it to a 3 page DS-156 form with a special bar code on page 3. Failure to click on the continue button will result in an incorrectly formatted result.
  • Print the completed DS-156 then date and sign it.
  • The 2D barcode that prints on the last page contains the information you entered and allows us to process your application quickly.
  • Bring DS-156, pages 1, 2 and 3 with the 2-D barcode when applying for your NIV.
  • The information that you enter is not stored anywhere. It is also not submitted electronically. It is only used to generate a barcode.

  • If you have any problems using the electronic DS-156, then please use the non-electronic DS-156. All applicants from the BRP, URP and AmCham, and all holders of Diplomatic and Official passports must use the ectronic NIV application (DS-156).
