      WASHINGTON, April 12, 2002 The U.S. Department of
Agriculture announced the appointment of the five State
Committee members for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) in
Virginia.

      FSA State Committees are responsible for the general
direction and supervision of state FSA programs. The
committee keeps farmers informed of Agency program
activities and resolves appeals and complaints. Members
maintain cooperative relationships with the agribusiness
community. The Virginia State Committee members are as
follows:
  · Maxine Grimm Arey, from Augusta County, is Chairperson of
  the committee. She is a partner in a farm operation that
  includes dairy and poultry enterprises. Crops grown are
  corn, alfalfa, and soybeans;
  · Kevin W. Engel, from Hanover County, manages a grain and
  beef cattle operation. Corn, soybeans, and wheat are the
  major crops produced on the farm;
  · James Rankin Robinson, from Frederick County, is a member
  of his family-owned R&T; Packing Corporation that grows
  and packages peaches and apples;
  · Cecil Edgar Shell, from Lunenburg County, grows flue-
  cured and fire-cured tobacco. He also raises wheat on
  his farm; and
  · Jesse DeWitt Williams, from Suffolk, has a farm operation
  that includes peanuts, cotton, wheat, barley, soybeans,
  and hay. A 140-cow beef herd is also part of his
  operation.

      FSA ensures the well-being of American agriculture,
the environment and the American public through efficient
and equitable administration of farm commodity programs;
farm ownership, operating and emergency loans; conservation
and environmental programs; emergency and disaster
assistance; domestic and international food assistance and
international export credit programs.
