Motor-vehicle
crashes take a heavy toll on people and operational readiness.
During one recent five-year period, 331 Sailors and 271
Marines died in such crashes. These deaths represented 59
percent of all accidental fatalities during the period--more
than twice the number killed in all operational mishaps.
Traffic crashes happen with such regularity that we have grown
numb to the possibility and consequences. Here are synopses of
just some of the tragic losses throughout the Navy and
Marine Corps.
