NASA's Senior Advisor to the Deputy Administrator Gary Martin and astronaut Ronald Garan, Jr. will visit on Wednesday, October 13 with students at Franke Park Elementary School, a NASA Explorer School. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and will be held at the Foellinger Theater on Sherman Boulevard, Franke Park. "It is vital that we partner with our schools to create learning environments that will prepare our young people for the journey ahead," said Martin. "Our nation's youth will inherit the challenge to explore Mars and beyond in the years to come. We must do what we can to engage them in the exciting possibilities the Vision for Space Exploration holds for them." Martin and Garan will talk with students about our destiny as explorers, NASA's stepping stone approach to exploring Earth, the Moon, Mars and beyond, and different NASA careers needed to meet the Vision. Franke Park Elementary School is one of 100 schools selected to participate in the NASA Explorer Schools program, a 3-year partnership of scientific and engineering adventures to engage students using NASA resources and capabilities. The program is designed to give students the foundation and inspiration to pursue careers in science, mathematics and technology.
