Command Sergeant Major Nicholas A. Piacentini Jr. assumed his role as Command Sergeant Major of the United States Army Reserve Command on June 27, 2002.

Piacentini was a scholar-athlete in high school and in college. He earned an associate's degree from Sacramento City College, and a bachelor's degree from Sacramento State College.

He attended numerous military schools to include the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant School, and the Advanced (ANCOC) and Senior (SNCOC) Noncommissioned Officer Courses. He was graduated from the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) in July 1995.

Piacentini enlisted in the United States Army Reserve April 28, 1970. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 360th Regiment, 1st Brigade 91st Division, Training at Sacramento. Positions he held during that assignment were as drill sergeant and senior drill sergeant for Company E; 3rd Battalion Operations sergeant; and first sergeant for Companies B and D.

His first assignment as a command sergeant major was as Command Sergeant Major for Headquarters, 5th Battalion, Lathrop, CA. Subsequent assignments were as Command Sergeant Major/Commandant of the 91st Division Leadership Drill Sergeant School, Dublin, CA; Command Sergeant Major of Headquarters, 1st Brigade (OSUT) at Sacramento; and as Command Sergeant Major of the 351st Civil Affairs Command, Mountain View, CA. Command Sergeant Major Piacentini then was selected as the Command Sergeant Major of the Army Reserve Personnel Center, St. Louis, MO, where he served from June 1994 to May 1998. From May 1998 to May 2000, he served as Command Sergeant Major of the 3rd Medical Command, Atlanta, GA, Installation Command Sergeant Major at Fort McCoy June 1, 2000.

Piacentini's military awards and decorations include: the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters; the Army Commendation Medal; the Army Achievement Medal; the Good Conduct Medal; the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters; the National Defense Service Ribbon with Bronze Service Star; the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal; the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Silver Hourglass Device; the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 4; and the Army Service Ribbon. Command Sergeant Major Piacentini's badges include the Expert Infantry Badge and the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge.
