Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare Defense

Q. Is the U.S. still developing biological weapons to use against our enemies?

A. As required by executive order, the U.S. government ceased all offensive biological research in November, 1969; however, DoD does have research programs which focus on defensive measures. Some projects exist as part of the Medical Biological Defense research program. DoD reports on these projects annually to Congress. The most recent edition, "Department of Defense Nuclear/Biological/Chemical (NBC) Warfare Defense Annual Report to Congress," was published in March 2000.
