Visual Identity System

This web site provides basic guidance for use of the U.S. Geological Survey Visual Identity System (VIS) including the trademarked USGS identifier by non-USGS organizations. Anyone creating USGS products must get specifications for the products from their USGS contact.

The VIS was developed to visually reinforce who USGS is and what it does. The following are key elements to remember when using the USGS identifier:

  1. Use approved artwork only. Ask your USGS contact for images files in a format appropriate for your product.
  2. Don't alter the USGS identifier.
  3. The identifier may appear only in green (PMS348), black, or white.
  4. The Identifier is trademarked and must be used in accordance with VIS specifications.

Use of the identifier by other entities is prohibited without prior written permission.
