Chief Warrant Officer David L. Koch assumed his role as Command Chief Warrant Officer of the United States Army Reserve on February 23, 2004. He is the principal advisor to the Chief, Army Reserve for all warrant officer related issues.

Koch enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve as a private on October 16, 1965. Koch served continuously in the United States Army Reserve until September 20, 1986. He then entered an Active Guard and Reserve tour and has served since September 21, 1986 to present in that capacity. Throughout his career, Koch has served as an enlisted soldier, noncommissioned officer, and warrant officer in the Army Reserve.

Koch began his military career at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., where he completed basic combat training and the combat engineer training course. In more than 38 years of U.S. Army Reserve service, his previous assignments include: assistant deputy commandant at the Warrant Officer Career Center, Fort Rucker, Ala.; engineer equipment repair technician, 493rd Engineer Group, Dallas, Texas; battalion maintenance officer and direct support maintenance technician, 411th Engineer Combat Battalion, Honolulu, Hawaii; engineering repair technician, 420th Engineer Brigade, Bryan, Texas; Port of Entry/Departure maintenance officer, Central American Task Forces, Puerto Barrios, Guatemala; organizational engineer repair technician and direct support maintenance technician, Company A, 980th Engineer Battalion, Waco, Texas; engineer equipment repair inspector, repair parts supervisor, and supply specialist, Headquarters 420th Engineer Brigade, Bryan, Texas; engineer equipment operator and heavy construction carpenter, Company B, 871st Engineer Battalion, San Antonio, Texas; and crash fire team member, 463rd Engineer Platoon, Uvalde, Texas.

Koch earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, in recreation and parks management. Koch’s military education includes Basic Infantry Training and Combat Engineer Training, Engineer Repair Technician Senior Course (honors), Warrant Officer Senior Staff Course, Logistics Management Course, Unit Movement Officer Course, Warrant Officer Professional Development Course, Air Load Planners Course, and numerous other technical courses.

Among his awards are the Legion of Merit, five awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (5 Oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (3 Oak leaf clusters), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Third award, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon. He also holds the “Monja Blanca” medal from Guatemala.
