Note: H.R. 2586 was the House-passed version of the FY 2002 defense authorization bill. S. 1155 was introduced by request, based on the President's budget request. S. 1416 was the version of the defense authorization bill from the Senate Armed Services Committee and S. 1438 was a later similar version. S. 1417, S. 1418, and S. 1419 each contained a portion of S. 1438 as amended. The House inserted H.R. 2586 in S. 1438 prior to S. 1438 passage. Differences between the House and Senate versions of S. 1438 were resolved in conference.
