GOT AN INSPIRATION? GET RECOGNIZED!

The Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) has made it easy for members of the supply community to get involved in the AR revolution and share their ideas. Always on the lookout for ways to do business better and cheaper, NAVSUP has set up several programs to hear from their community.

The Price Challenge Hotline, run by the Fitting Out & Supply Support Assistance Center (FOSSAC), is looking for ways to reduce the price of spare parts. It's the other part of the standard stock price, less the surcharge. The mission of the Price Challenge Hotline is to provide pricing validation support by acting as the Navy's focal point for all pricing inquiries related to spare parts and consumables used in support of Navy weapon systems.

DoD employees and active duty military personnel can submit price challenges via the World Wide Web (WWW) [www.norfolk.navy.mil/price_fighters/pricehl.html]. Types of price inquiries include items that:

  • appear to be overpriced, or are identical;
  • would achieve a reduced price through combined demand by consolidating their management under one National Stock Number (NSN);
  • would achieve a reduced price through a new commercial source of purchase or repair; or
  • would achieve a reduced price as a result of a make/buy decision.

The Bounty Hunter is a spotlight program looking for good business practices-innovations that can streamline how we do our jobs. Users are asked to submit a description of the best practice, its expected benefits, output, indicators of effectiveness, and quantifiable benefits. Ideas can be submitted via the WWW [www.navsup.navy.mil/business/best-practices/idea/index.html].

Surcharge Buster, NAVSUP's newest spotlight program, is looking for ways to reduce the surcharge to the Navy Working Capital Fund by slashing parts prices. The program has had twenty-nine million dollars in savings to date.

Rewards are available for money saving ideas. Submit your suggestions to surcharge_busters@navsup.navy.mil. The Beneficial Suggestion program operates at both the local level and Headquarters. Ideas for this program that target local operations should be submitted via the local chain of command.

The Military Cash Awards program is similar to the Beneficial Suggestion program and provides an avenue to reward the good ideas of military service members. Service members are encouraged to submit ideas via the chain of command.

The Incentive Awards Toolkit has guidelines, submission forms, and certificates for more than sixty different awards that supervisors can use to provide recognition for deserving employees. The Tool Kit identifies what awards and forms of appreciation can be given to civilian employees at NAVSUP.
