Carl Vinson Return to Bremerton After a Successful COMPUTEX

USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) returned to its homeport of Bremerton, Wash., Oct. 12 following more than a month at sea, successfully completing a 22-day Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX) off the coast of Southern California.

 

 

Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group Successfully Completes COMPTUEX

The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group successfully completed its 22-day Composite Training Unit Exercise, or COMPTUEX, Saturday in the seas off the coast of Southern California.

COMPTUEX is an intermediate-level strike group training exercise. It typically represents the first time in a training cycle a carrier strike group operates together as a cohesive team and is a critical step toward the final certification to deploy overseas.

 

New 'Mayor' Maestros Mighty Warship

On Sept. 13, as the  “Gold Eagle” was pulling out of San Diego, Capt. Chip Miller became USS Carl Vinson’s (CVN 70) new Executive Officer, a job he described as “like being mayor of a city at sea.”

Miller relieved Capt. K. J. Norton, who will take command of the Carl Vinson Strike Group’s fast combat support ship, USS Camden (AOE 2).

 

New Drill Makes Carl Vinson CBR-Ready

Sailors assigned to USS Carl Vinson’s (CVN 70) In Port Emergency Team (IPET) responded to an unprecedented suspicious substance drill Sept. 9, when a postal clerk reported a curious white powder posing as a dangerous chemical agent sifting from a box in Vinson’s mail handling room.

 

Vinson’s CSMO Takes Golf Title

USS Carl Vinson’s (CVN 70) new Combat Systems Maintenance Officer Lt. Gary Fuselier, claimed the inaugural Virginia State Golf Association Public Links Championship Sept. 5 at the Golden Horseshoe Green Course in Williamsburg, Va.

 

Successful SMI: Business As Usual Aboard Vinson

USS Carl Vinson’s (CVN 70) supply department wrapped up an outstanding Supply Management Inspection (SMI) Sept. 11, setting the bar at the highest notch for the rest of the fleet.
