Direct Vendor Delivery

Overview

The benefits of Direct Vendor Delivery (DVD) come from reducing the logistics response time (LRT) by shipping directly from the vendor to the user. In the case where a DVD contract includes repairable support, effectiveness increases by combining the procurement and repair pipelines. Long-term DVD contracts ideally reduce the Navy's investment in spare parts inventory. The goal is to manage suppliers, not parts. However, when a DVD is put in place with initial system acquisition, government investment in spare parts may be deferred or eliminated entirely.
