Configuration

Here are the minimum system requirements needed in the Home Zone. If you're not sure about whether your set-up is complete, please ask a friend or a teacher.

Please do not try to take apart your computer by yourself !

Computers:

Macintosh - (Power Mac) - 16 megabytes RAM - Mac Operating system OS 7.1 or greater (virtual memory enabled).
Windows - (Pentium or compatible) - 16 megabytes RAM - Windows 95 operating system or greater - Streaming audio will require a Windows compatible sound card.

Peripherals:

Mouse
Monitor capable of displaying at least 8-bit (256 colors) or more and able to display a screen of at least 640X480 pixels.
Modem - This is often internal on PCs and external on Macintoshes. You will need a modem with a speed of 28.8 Kbps or higher.

Software:

Connectivity software. If you can read this, you're already connected! In case you wish to access the Internet from another machine, you will need special software for doing so. You basically need an account with an Internet Service Provider or ISP. Once you have an account, the provider will give you the software you need to make this connection.
A browser software such as Netscape 3.0, Internet Explorer 3.0 or AOL 3.0 or greater. A browser software of version 4.0 or greater would be ideal!
To view the multimedia files in this Web site, you will also need the Shockwave and Flash plug-ins. You can check if you have them here.
