During the 1970's, male victimization rates varied. Beginning in the 1980's, rates began a downward trend which began reversing in the late 1980's, reaching a peak in 1992. Since then, male victimization rates have steadily fallen. As the rates for both males and females have fallen recently, the difference between them has generally narrowed.
