Students and teachers can learn more about saving and investing through these resources.


A guide for teachers and parents to help young people learn about saving and investing.



Teachers — Introduce your students to the financial facts of life with the Basics of Saving and Investing, a five-unit curriculum with learning activities and other resources for teachers.

Students — The National Association of Investors Corporation has information for young people on its Web site.

Teachers — The SEC offers a broad range of free publications on how to invest wisely and avoid costly mistakes. To order brochures for your class, call 1-800-SEC-0330.



We've designed posters showing kids the importance of saving money. It is amazing to see the power of compound interest at work!



Use the Alliance for Investor Education's interactive Savings Calculator to find out how saving small amounts today can add up to big money over the long term.



Test Your Money Smarts is an interactive quiz that you can take online and learn the correct answers immediately. It’s also posted in a ".pdf" format that you can view using Adobe Acrobat. After you've taken the quiz, you can see the answers by using Adobe Acrobat.

Jump$tart Coalition for Financial Literacy
This coalition of more than 20 organizations is working to improve the financial literacy of students in grades K-12. A clearinghouse of resources and teaching ideas can be found on the Jump$tart Web site or by calling (202) 466-8610.

North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA)
NASAA has a list of the securities regulators in each state. Contact your state regulator to find out about local educational programs or publications.

National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD)
NASD has posted the Basics of Saving and Investing Curriculum, a calculator to help students understand the power of compound interest, and other information on their investor education Web site.

Investor Protection Trust (IPT)
The IPT provides independent, objective information needed by consumers to make informed investment decisions. NASAA and IPT are partnering in a program to train teachers who want to include saving and investing in the curriculum. Visit IPT’s Web site for more information on the Financial Literacy 2001 program.

Securities Industry Foundation for Economic Education (SIFEE)
SIFEE sponsors the Stock Market Game in cooperation with state centers of economic education.

U.S. Treasury Department
The Treasury Department links to several pages for children maintained by other government agencies, including the U.S. Mint and the White House.
