USDA APPOINTS MASSACHUSETTS FARM SERVICE AGENCY STATE
                COMMITTEE MEMBERS

      WASHINGTON, May 17, 2002   The U.S. Department of
Agriculture announced the appointment of the five State
Committee members for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) in
Massachusetts.

      FSA State Committees are responsible for the general
direction and supervision of state FSA programs.  The
committee keeps farmers informed of Agency program
activities and resolves appeals and complaints.  Members
maintain cooperative relationships with the agribusiness
community.  The Massachusetts State Committee members are as
follows:

  ·  Kelley Rae Small, from Worcester County, is Chairperson
     of the committee. Ms. Small was raised on a farm.  She is
     actively involved in the Massachusetts horse industry and
     is the publisher of Horsemen's Yankee Pedlar;
  ·  Matthew Wilken Beaton, from Barnstable County, is part
     owner and Vice-President of the Cranberry Grower's
     Services and assists in the daily management of cranberry
     bogs;
  ·  Raymond E. Duda, from Hampshire County, is the owner and
     President of Lazy D Farms, a family beef cattle and
     compost operation, which was a dairy farm until 1988;
  ·  Diana Lynn Rex, from Hampshire County, is co-owner of
     Four Rex Farm, Inc., which consists of greenhouse
     tomatoes, peppers, European cucumbers, bedding plants,
     and other vegetables; and
  ·  H. Michael Smolak, Jr., from Essex County, is owner 
     and operator of Smolak Farms, a multifaceted operation 
     that combines agriculture, education, and tourism.

      FSA ensures the well-being of American agriculture, the 
environment and the American public through efficient and 
equitable administration of farm commodity programs; farm
ownership, operating and emergency loans; conservation and 
environmental programs; emergency and disaster assistance; 
domestic and international food assistance; and international
export credit programs.
