ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Palm Beach County center for application for temporary roofing installation will relocate on Monday, Oct. 18, to Gaines Park, 1501 N. Australian Avenue, West Palm Beach. The new Gaines Park location will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, including weekends.

Operation BLUE ROOF assistance is provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The recent hurricanes have left many homeowners with damaged roofs, and permanent repairs can take time. Homeowners can have a blue plastic temporary roof installed over their damaged roof area FREE OF CHARGE by Corps of Engineers contractors.

The current Palm Beach County centers for temporary roofing application, Jupiter Civic Center and Boynton Beach Civic Center, will close on Sunday evening. They will operate this weekend, Oct. 16 and 17, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Some quick facts about Operation BLUE ROOF temporary roofing:

  • To qualify for BLUE ROOF services, damage to the roof must be less than 50 percent and the area to be covered must be structurally sound and safe for construction crew access and work.
  • The homeowner must complete and sign a Right of Entry form to allow government and contractor employees on their property.
  • The Corps is covering roofs as quickly as possible, but it takes time. The Corps will respond to every person who has applied for temporary roofing as rapidly as possible.

The BLUE ROOF temporary roofing program is provided by FEMA through the Corps of Engineers. This service is provided at no cost to the property owner.

Additional information on the BLUE ROOF temporary roofing program can be accessed at www.saj.usace.army.mil and clicking on the “Hurricane Recovery Information – Operation BLUE ROOF” link at the top of the web page.
