Appalachian Regional Commission Summer Programs
For: High School Students and Teachers in
13 Appalachian States.
ARC collaborated with the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge
National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tenn., to provide a two-week
residential, hands-on learning institute for high school students and
teachers focusing on math, science, and technology. The 2004 summer
programs were administered by ORISE.

Graduate Student Program:
Meeting with Nobel Laureates in Lindau, Germany
For: Doctoral students whose current research is funded
by DOE, or who is a student at one of Oak Ridge Associated Universities
Member Institutions.
DOE and ORAU sponsor students to travel to Lindau, Germany to attend the
annual meeting of Nobel Laureates. Students are given the opportunity to
meet with young researchers from around the world, and interact
face-to-face with Nobel Prize winners.
Tennessee
Science Bowl
For: Teams of High School Students from any school in
the state of Tennessee.
The science bowl is a fast-paced academic competition that offers a chance
for teams of high school students to match their wits in math and science.
Regional/state winners advance to the National Science Bowl in Washington,
D.C.
Women in Science and
Technology Conference (WIST)
For: Young women in the
pursuit of degrees and careers in one of the sciences, engineering,
mathematics, computer science, or related technology fields.
WIST has been discontinued. Click here for information
