Record of Decision for the Mercury Management Environmental Impact Statement

The Defense National Stockpile Center has prepared a Final Mercury Management Environmental Impact Statement (MM EIS) to help determine how to manage its elemental mercury inventory over the long term, because it is no longer needed for our national defense.  The MM EIS, published in March 2004, evaluated three alternatives:  (1) No Action (continue mercury storage at current locations); (2) Consolidation and storage of mercury at one site; and (3) Resumption of mercury sales.

On April 30, Cornel Holder, DNSC administrator, released a Record of Decision announcing that the chosen alternative was “Consolidation and storage of mercury at one site.”
