CORE Consortium for Oceanographic Research & Education
CORE is the Washington, DC based association of U.S. oceanographic research institutions, universities, laboratories and aquaria. Our 59 members represent the nucleus of U.S. research and education in the ocean.

Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory Deep-Sea Sample Repository
You can find out what cores are, how we get cores, what we do with them, see some of the research results, and find out more about the Core Repository.

 National Marine Educators Association
The National Marine Educators Association brings together those interested in the study and enjoyment of the world of water--both fresh and salt.

Bridge Ocean Sciences Education Teacher Resource Center
Bridge Goals: Provide educators with content-correct & content-current marine information and data; support researchers in outreach efforts; and improve communications among educators and between the education and research communities.

  Dive and Discover
Join scientists as they dive to the mid-ocean ridge thousands of meters deep. Explore towering underwater volcanoes, black smokers, and bizarre creatures that live there.

 Germantown Elementary School
Germantown Elementary Schoolin Germantown, Illinois has begun adapting its curriculum to include units of study placed on the Internet. These pages are excellent examples of how teachers and students can both increase education resources using the Internet.

MATE, Marine Advanced Technology Education Center
MATE is a national consortium of educational institutions and organizations seeking to improve marine technology education and to prepare our marine technicians for the complex, technologically advanced, workplace of today and tomorrow.

  New Millenium Observatory
NeMO is a seafloor observatory at an active underwater volcano, Axial Seamount. A volcanic eruption occured at Axial in January 1998, destroying some hydrothermal vent sites and creating new ones. Since then NeMO scientists have been assessing the impact of the eruption and documenting the on-going changes in Axial's summit caldera. Through the site, you can access fly-through movies, virtual-reality panoramas, and video clips from 6 sites located in Axial's summit caldera. Also available are new curriculum materials based on NeMO research.

Teachers Experiencing Antarctica and the Arctic (TEA)
Teachers Experiencing Antarctica and the Arctic (TEA) is a program in which teachers travel to the polar realms to participate in ongoing research. The program, sponsored by NSF, is a partnership between teachers, researchers, and school districts.

 Secrets@Sea
Secrets@Sea was produced by Engaging Science - a partnership of the Pacific Space Centre, Science World and the Vancouver Aquarium. Engaging Science provides teacher training workshops as well as books, videos and other science education resources.

 Space Science Institute (SSI)
The Institute is a nonprofit corporation located in Boulder, Colorado. Researchers and educators work together to expand our knowledge of the space sciences and communicate that knowledge to the public.

Practical Uses of Math And Science (PUMAS)
PUMAS is a collection of one-page examples of how math and science topics taught in K-12 classes can be used in interesting settings, including everyday life.

 U.N. CyberSchoolBus
This United Nations site aims to provide educational materials on meaty subjects, such as ocean pollution.

1998 -- International Year of the Ocean
In recognition of the importance of the ocean, the marine environment and its resources for life on earth and for sustainable development, the United Nations has declared 1998 as the International Year of the Ocean.
