 1995 Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics
              on World Wide Web

The Bureau of Justice Statistics today announced
that the 23rd annual edition of the Sourcebook of
Criminal Justice Statistics, a recognized national
criminal justice statistics reference book, is
available on the World Wide Web. The home page
address is--

The 1995 edition presents 654 data tables from
more than 100 sources on--

* characteristics of the criminal justice system

* public attitudes toward crime and criminal
justice topics

* nature and distribution of known offenses 

* characteristics and distribution of persons
arrested

* judicial processing of defendants

* persons under correctional supervision.

The 1995 Sourcebook is also available in printed
form from the Bureau of Justice Statistics
Clearinghouse, P.O. Box 179, Dept. BJS, Annapolis

Both the book and the Web site offer an exhaustive
index, an annotated bibliography of sources,
technical appendices explaining how the data 
were collected, and a list of source publishers

tables to explanatory notes and appendices; 
the list of source publishers has links to their
Web home pages as well. 

The book was co-edited by Kathleen Maguire and Ann
L. Pastore of the Hindelang Criminal Justice
Research Center, Albany, New York, and is 
published by the Bureau of Justice Statistics of
the U.S. Department of Justice. The fully
searchable Web site was developed and is
maintained by the Hindelang Center.
