Awrey Bakeries Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Walnuts in "Carrot Sheet Cake 40 Cut (Nut Free)"
Livonia, MI - October 15, 2001 -- Awrey Bakeries of Livonia Michigan is recalling Carrot Sheet Cake 40 Cut (Nut Free), sold through its Livonia Outlet Store because it may contain undeclared walnuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The recalled Carrot Sheet Cake 40 Cut (Nut Free), was distributed only through Awreys Outlet Store located at 12301 Farmington Road, Livonia, Michigan. The cake in question was available for sale from Thursday October 11, 2001 through Saturday October 13, 2001.
The product is a 12x16 Sheet Cake in a corrugated tray that is wrapped in a poly film. The lot number 015801 appears on one side of the corrugated tray.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product.
The recall was initiated after a customer complaint that walnut containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of walnuts. Subsequent investigation indicates that as many as 17 Carrot Sheet Cakes may have been mislabeled.
Consumers who have purchased any of these cakes are urged to return them to
the Outlet Store for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the
company at 1-734-513-4260. This product is being recalled in cooperation with
the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
