Boston Cookies Issues Allergy Allert on Undeclared Walnuts in Nantucket Brownies - Chocolate Fudge Brownie - 3 oz.

SOMERVILLE, MA- March 23, 2001 - Boston Cookies of Somerville, Massachusetts is voluntarily recalling 26 cases (12 x 3oz.) Nantucket Brownie, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, because it may contain undeclared walnuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergy reaction if they consume these products.

Chocolate Fudge Brownie was distributed in ME, NH, MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, PA, DC, MD through retail natural food stores.

Nantucket Brownie, Chocolate Fudge Brownies are sold in a 3oz. cellophane wrap individual servings. Walnuts are visible through packaging. The UPC code for the product being recalled is: 0-95155-06001-6.

No illness has been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product containing walnuts was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of walnuts. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes.

Consumers who have purchased the Nantucket Brownies, Chocolate Fudge Brownie are urged to return it to place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Boston Cookies at 1-800-879-7403.
