Yonkers, NY - March 28, 2000 - Merex Corp. is recalling its 3 oz. trays of Bon Campo Sundried Tomatoes because they may contain undeclared sulfites. People who have allergies to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products.

The recalled Sundried Tomatoes were distributed in the metro NY area. The product comes in a clear 3 oz. plastic tray with UPC #081517 100193 on the front label.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the sulfite containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of sulfites. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's packaging processes, whereby these packages didn't contain a sticker which Merex normally places on them, declaring the presence of sulfites in this product. Production of the product has been suspended until the company is certain that the problem has been corrected.

Consumers who have purchased 3 oz. trays of Bon Campo Sundried Tomatoes are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-513-3335
