Oroweat Foods Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Walnuts; Oroweat 100% Whole Wheat Bagels Recalled From Arizona, California, and Oregon

MONTEBELLO, CALIFORNIA, April 1, 1999 - Oroweat Foods announced that it is recalling Oroweat 100% Whole Wheat bagels from Arizona, California, and Oregon because they may contain walnuts- a potential allergen that is not named on the package ingredients list. People who have allergies to walnuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The product has a sell-by date of April 8 printed on the plastic lock-tab bag closure. The bagels were distributed on Monday, March 29, 1999, to retail stores. The company is removing all 100% Whole Wheat bagels with the April 8 code date from retail stores today.

No other Oroweat products are affected.

Consumers with allergies to walnuts who have purchased the product can return the product to its place of purchase for a full refund or call the company at 800-356-3314 for additional information.
